Dynmap view of the Minecraft world and current regions where building has been open(ed) as of 11 December 2020.

New Earth is a stream project started on 26th July 2020, where a 1:4000 scale map of the Earth is opened up in sections to the public to build, both on and off of stream.

The map is pre-made with the countries and borders (depicted with cobblestone blocks) laid out, and users are allowed to build down a little and up to around 40 blocks from sea level.

The builds can be viewed by joining the server (Instructions found here) and in your internet browser via the Dynmap here. Regions can be highlighted on the map by turning on the "WorldGuard" layers found on the left menu.

This is the first stream to be played on the 1.16.1 game version.

Rules

The full list of rules for builds can be found here. The rules apply for all on-stream and off-stream builds, and are updated over time as the server develops.

Stream 1 - Western Europe

The first stream, 26th July 2020, featured a Western Europe section containing Ireland, The UK, (most of) France, Netherlands, Spain and Portugal

Public Build 1 - Central & Eastern Europe

Dynmap view of the first two complete regions. 5pm 30th July 2020

The second public build that opened at the end of Stream 1 featured a lot of Central Europe, including locations such as Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and Austria to name a few.

This was later expanded one day later to include a lot of Eastern Europe.

This build region closed at 5pm 30th July 2020, in preparation for the next stream 2 hours later.

Stream 2 - Scandinavia

Dynmap view after the second stream. 11:30pm 30th July 2020

This second stream was on the 30th July 2020 at 7pm (BST) and lasted around 3 and a half hours. This opened up most of the Nordics: Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. During the stream, RT visited and explored a lot of the Public Central Europe area built in between the streams before admiring what had been built during the stream itself.

Public Build 2 - Northern Russia

The second public build was opened after the stream on 30th July 2020, expanding to a northern section of Russia. It was later expanded to the East on the 5th August 2020, as the video released to include even more of Northern Russia. The zone was further expanded to the East once more on the 13th August. Once again this was finally expanded to the very East of Russia, going up to the edge of the world, on the 29th August 2020. This build zone finally closed on 13th September 2020 at 1pm, making this the largest and longest region at this time.

This region marked the debut of a greatly increased presence of build groups & much larger projects, armor stand builds, and note block builds, including jingles and full-length songs. The eastern zone of Russia also marked the introduction of full regional road systems across Public Builds; the road system in eastern Russia ranges across 3000 blocks. These concepts of builds would continue in preceding builds.

Public Build 3 - North-west Africa

After an expected stream was cancelled, the plans to open a new region still went ahead. This area featured multiple countries including Morocco, Algeria, Western Sahara, Mali, Senegal, Canary Islands, to name just a few.

This region was temporarily closed on 16 September as RT was touring Russia and reopened once the stream had finished.

Concerns over Large Builds and Road Networks

Many concepts introduced from the public builds in Russia continued in this zone, but concern was brought up regarding larger builds and roads. There was controversy over large builds being larger than the countries they were in and concern over the massive space that a road network was taking. This severely reduced free space for other builders to use. These concerns led to some builds being erased. After these concerns were discussed and resolved in the community, builders have become much more considerate about the space they use; larger projects have been scaled down and road networks changed to be less wide. These considerations would continue into preceding build streams.

Stream 3 - Northwest Asia & Viewing Northern Russia (Part 1)

On 16th September RT set out to view what had been created in the Public Northern Russia area. Due to its sheer size and high amount of detail in builds, RT only managed to view around half of the region, even with the stream lasting 4 hours.

Throughout the stream, a new region was opened - Northwest Asia. This included Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Some southern Russia, Georgia and Turkey.

Due to the region being less filled, this and the previous public area (North-west Africa) were both left open for players to build on and was closed on 22 October, just over a month later.

Stream 4 - Mainland America

On 22nd October 2020 a region was opened up that covered (most) of Mainland America - Or Contiguous United States - where RT streamed and toured the area while people built for just under 4 hours.

Changes to New Earth

This stream marked the beginning of several features for the server.

Hybrid Build Region Model

This was the first build region in New Earth to follow a new "hybrid" model for build zones: initially starting as a stream build while remaining open for building after the end of the stream. This allowed for users to complete their builds, even if they were not done by the end of the stream. It also allowed for users to build in the region at any time if they were unable to make the stream. The region was closed on 3rd November 2020.

New Earth Travel Hub

On this day, the first fast travel hub for New Earth created. It allowed players to travel from the spawn platform portal to the current and past build regions across the map. It was a straight corridor with portals on each side. Prior to the travel hub's creation, players had to fly from the latest region to explore the rest of the world.

On 19 September 2020, Vivecraft was supported on the server. This allowed players with appropriate devices and a Vivecraft client to play and build in VR. Players without VR devices could also play using non-VR clients to see other players interact with the game using VR. Mainland America was the first build stream which supported Vivecraft.

Public Build 4 - Northern Africa

After the previous stream, on 22nd October 2020, this new region opened up, featuring countries including Libya, Chad, Cameroon and Central Africa Republic. This stayed open for an extended time for off-stream building.

Stream 5 - Viewing Northern Russia (Part 2)

On 27th October 2020, RT planned to view the rest of Northern Russia that he didn't complete in his previous viewing, viewing the last half of builds. The stream was over 4 hours in length where he also viewed the Northwest Asia region after travelling through Northern Russia. During the stream, people were limited to building within the Northern Africa region to aid in server performance. This meant mainland America was put "on hold". After the stream the whole world was back open and people could build in either of the two open regions.

Stream 6 - Canada

On 1st November 2020 RT held a stream for (the majority of) Canada. The stream lasted three and a half hours where people built in the area while RT toured and looked around the build area.

This region also followed the "hybrid" model and remained open for building after the stream. It was closed on 4 December 2020.

This region introduced a "No Tesco" rule which was later changed to be more general to apply to shopping chains, primarily to chains unrelated to the country.

Stream 7 - Greenland

Two of the domes before the stream

On 7th November 2020, RT streamed Greenland. This was the first time a build region in New Earth had a special theme: builders were to build inside domes. These were large spheres made out of white and black glass, within area Greenland, with a total of 4. Greenland previously was an ice spike biome, but within the spheres, these were removed and changed to have grass.

Two of the domes opened for the stream, the other two opened post-stream. They were closed on 1 December 2020, 1 hour prior to the tour stream viewing all the domes.

The Void

Part way through the stream, players started covering the walls of one of the domes with black concrete, removing all natural light source. This was controversial as it broke how people had lit up their builds. A decision was made that it was to be removed from the original dome, but would be allowed on one of the post-stream domes.

Two hours after opening, a team of players worked together and completed covering the whole inside of "dome 2" in black concrete. Nicknamed "The Void Dome", builds within it are themed more for outer space or the general darkness. What started as a controversial build ultimately became an iconic build theme and a favourite among builders, viewers and RT himself.

Public Build 5 - North-east Africa

On the 1st of December, RT revisited Greenland to tour the domes that were built off-stream. During this tour, players could join and build in the North-Eastern part of Africa. This region included countries such as Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.

The region stayed open after the stream, and closed a few hours prior to the New Atlantis stream on the 17th of December.

Stream 8 - Atlantis

On 17th December a new region was created, a square sitting between Canada, America and West Europe to represent Atlantis.

This region had all water removed from it, and build height was only as tall as the water level of the ocean, meaning players were destined to dig down to create larger builds.

After the stream, this region stayed open for players to continue building.
