{{COUNTA|1|2|3|4}} gives:
4
In a template, you can use this template to count if the variable exists, for example:
If only Tapir and Bagel have value in its parameters,
{{COUNTA|{{{Tapir|}}}|{{{Bagel|}}}|{{{Dount|}}}|{{{Noodles|}}}}} gives 2.
