On the Minecraft server, a town is a settlement that has met certain requirements, primarily a large enough population, and in doing so is granted certain privileges and perks. These perks include a level of prestige, a guaranteed navigational block on the Directory, and a special Dynmap marker.

Towns act as individual subcommunities and may have their own farms and systems. The population of a town may also vary drastically - it can gain members or lose them. Some towns have many or all of their members originating from a certain subcommunity that has decided to partake in the survival server, e.g. Nurndal, which had a large portion of the population originating from the New World Order New Earth building group.

A map of Godhaven, which was subdivided into many different districts.

The style of a town varies and may range from strict to very lax restrictions on what can be built. In addition, a town may have many smaller "districts", which act as semi-independent towns in their own right.
