The Drift King

The Drift King is a title and name often used for RTGame. The title originated from a 200cc Mario Kart tournament hosted in a pub that Daniel placed first in and is often used as a way to describe Daniel in racing games.

Background

The Drift King is an annual Mario Kart competition hosted by the Trinity Sci-Fi Society, a society at Trinity College of the University of Dublin. The Drift King competition of 2015, named The Drift King Championships & Pub Night at Long Stone, was held at The Long Stone Pub on December 3rd near the campus of the University of Dublin. RT participated in the event and placed first, earning him the title of The Drift King and a small crown. He did not receive any rewards because of him helping to organize the event.

Although subsequent The Drift King competitions were held, Daniel did not win them and therefore did not receive the title of The Drift King those years.

Usage

Daniel first began using the title during a Mario Kart stream in 2018. However, the title was popularized by a 2020 stream with The Irish Lads. The Drift King has been used consistently since the popularization of it and has spawned a number of similar terms like "Drift Daddy".

Daniel used the license plate "DRIFTKNG" in Forza Horizon 5 and had the Drift King nickname.

Trivia

The 'signature track' and final course of the Drift King tournament which earned RT his title, was Dragon Driftway.
