Dynmap view of the Minecraft world and current regions where building has been open(ed) as of 11 December 2020.

New Earth is an ongoing stream project originally beginning on 26th July 2020, where a 1:4000 scale map of the Earth is opened up in sections to the public to build, both on and off of stream.

The map is pre-made with the countries and borders (depicted with cobblestone blocks) laid out, and users are allowed to build down a little and up to around 40 blocks from sea level.

The builds can be viewed by joining the server (Instructions found here) and in your internet browser via the Dynmap here. Regions can be highlighted on the map by turning on the "WorldGuard" layers found on the left menu.

This is the first stream to be played on the 1.16.1 game version.

Rules

The full list of rules for builds can be found here. The rules apply for all on-stream and off-stream builds, and are updated over time as the server develops.

Stream 1 - Western Europe

The first stream, which premiered on 26th July 2020, featured a Western Europe section containing Ireland, the UK, (most of) France, Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.

Public Build 1 - Central & Eastern Europe

Dynmap view of the first two complete regions. 5pm 30th July 2020

The second public build that opened at the end of Stream 1 featured a large portion of Central Europe, including locations such as Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.

This was expanded one day later to include much of Eastern Europe.

This build region closed at 5 p.m. (BST) 30th July 2020, in preparation for the next stream two hours later.

The second stream was on the 30th July 2020 at 7pm (BST) and lasted around three and a half hours. A majority of the Nordic region was available for construction, including Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. During the stream, RT visited and explored a lot of the Public Central Europe area built in between the streams before admiring what had been built during the stream itself.

Public Build 2 - Northern Russia

The second public build was opened after the stream on 30th July 2020, expanding to a northern section of Russia. It was later expanded to the East on the 5th August 2020, as the video released to include even more of Northern Russia. The zone was further expanded to the East once more on the 13th August. Once again this was finally expanded to the very East of Russia, going up to the edge of the world, on the 29th August 2020. This build zone finally closed on 13th September 2020 at 1pm, making this the largest and longest region at this time.

This region marked the debut of a greatly increased presence of build groups & much larger projects, armor stand builds, and note block builds, including jingles and full-length songs. The eastern zone of Russia also marked the introduction of full regional road systems across Public Builds; the road system in eastern Russia ranges across 3000 blocks. These concepts of builds would continue in following builds.

Public Build 3 - Northwest Africa

Despite the cancellation of an expected stream, plans to open a new region still went into action. This area featured multiple countries including Morocco, Algeria, Western Sahara, Mali, Senegal, and the Canary Islands.

This region was temporarily closed on 16 September as RT was touring Russia and reopened once the stream had finished.

Concerns over Large Builds and Road Networks

Many concepts introduced from the public builds in Russia continued in this zone, but concern was brought up regarding larger builds and roads; firstly, community members expressed worry about the massive amounts of space that a road network was taking, which severely reduced free space for other builders to use. In addition, there was controversy over large builds being larger than their native countries. Both concerns led to the erasure of some builds. After these concerns were discussed and resolved in the community, builders have become much more considerate about the space they use; larger projects have been scaled down and road networks changed to be less wide. These ideas of common courtesy would continue into preceding build streams.

Stream 3 - Northwest Asia & Viewing Northern Russia (Part 1)

On 16th September, RT set out to view what had been created in the Public Northern Russia area. Due to its sheer size and high amount of detail in builds, RT only managed to view around half of the region, even with the stream lasting four hours.

Throughout the stream, a new region was opened - Northwest Asia. This included Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, and some of southern Russia.

Due to the region being less filled, this and the previous public area (Northwest Africa) were both left open for players to build on and was closed on 22 October, just over a month later.

Stream 4 - Mainland America

On 22nd October 2020, a region was opened up that covered most of Mainland America (also known as the contiguous United States), where RT streamed and toured the area while people built for just under four hours.

Changes to New Earth

This stream marked the beginning of several features for the server.

Hybrid Build Region Model

This was the first build region in New Earth to follow a new "hybrid" model for build zones: it initially started as a stream build and still remained open for building after the end of the stream. This allowed for users to complete their builds, even if they were not done by the end of the stream; it also let users build in the region at any time if they were unable to make the stream. The region was closed on 3rd November 2020.

New Earth Travel Hub

On this day, the first fast travel hub for New Earth was created; it allowed players to travel from the spawn platform to the current portal in addition to previous build regions across the map. The hub featured a straight corridor with portals on each side. Prior to the travel hub's creation, players had to fly from the latest region to explore the rest of the world.

On 19 September 2020, Vivecraft became a supported mod on the server. This new addition allowed players with appropriate devices and a Vivecraft client to play and build in virtual reality, also known as VR. Players without VR devices could also play using non-VR clients to see other players using VR to interact with the game. Mainland America was the first build stream which supported Vivecraft.

Public Build 4 - Northern Africa

Beginning on 22nd October 2020 following the previous stream, the new region of Northern Africa opened up, featuring countries including Libya, Chad, Cameroon and Central Africa Republic. This stayed open for an extended time for off-stream building.

Stream 5 - Viewing Northern Russia (Part 2)

On 27th October 2020, RT planned to view the rest of Northern Russia that was missed in his previous tour, viewing the last half of builds. The stream was over four hours in length, where he also viewed the Northwest Asia region after travelling through Northern Russia. During the stream, people were limited to building within the Northern Africa region to aid in server performance; this meant mainland America was temporarily put "on hold". After the stream, the whole world re-opened, and people could build in either of the two open regions.

Stream 6 - Canada

On 1st November 2020, RT held a stream for the majority of Canada. The stream lasted three and a half hours, where people built in the area while RT toured and looked around the build area.

This region also followed the "hybrid" model and remained open for building after the stream. It was closed on 4 December 2020.

This region was the first area to introduce the "No Tesco Rule", prohibiting the building of Tesco stores in regions that do not carry this shopping chain. The rule later changed to apply more broadly to the ban of retailers unrelated to the given country of the build stream.

Stream 7 - Greenland

Two of the domes before the stream

On 7th November 2020, RT streamed Greenland. This was the first time a build region in New Earth had a special theme: builders were to construct their work solely inside four domes. These large spheres were made out of white and black glass and were located above Greenland; the country previously was an ice spike biome, but these were removed and replaced with grass within the domes.

Two of the domes opened for the stream, leaving the remaining pair to open for building post-stream. They were closed on 1 December 2020, one hour prior to the tour stream viewing all the domes.

The Void

Partway through the stream, players started covering the walls of one dome with black concrete, removing all natural light source. This was a controversial move, as it broke how people had lit up their builds. A decision was made that it was to be removed from the original dome, but would be allowed on one of the post-stream domes.

Two hours after opening, a team of players worked together and completed covering the whole inside of "dome 2" in black concrete. Nicknamed "The Void Dome", the builds inside feature a theme pertaining to outer space or the general darkness. What started as a controversial build ultimately became an iconic build theme and a favourite among builders, viewers and RT himself.

Public Build 5 - Northeast Africa

On the 1st of December, RT revisited Greenland to tour the domes that were built off-stream. During this tour, players could join and build in the northeastern part of Africa. This region included countries such as Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.

The region stayed open after the stream, and closed a few hours prior to the New Atlantis stream on the 17th of December.

Stream 8 - Atlantis

On 17th December, a new square region sitting between Canada, America and West Europe was created to represent Atlantis.

This region had all water removed from it, and build height was only as tall as the water level of the ocean, meaning players were destined to dig down to create larger builds.

After the stream, this region stayed open for players to continue building.

Stream 10 - Japan & Korea

This build region contained Japan, North & South Korea, with small sections of Russia and China opening on the 11th March 2021. Due to the large amount of water in this stream build, the rule regarding the consideration of coastlines was lifted slightly, allowing players to build in the ocean. This region closed on the 25th March, 2021 at 5pm.

Stream 12 - New Zealand

On the 25th March 2021, New Zealand was opened up on stream. As it was a smaller region, some lesser islands closer to the spawn platform were permitted for build use. Due to the size, this was planned to only be open for a short time post-stream. It was closed at 9pm 27th March. This was a unique build in that this build site was placed on the edge of the world map, looming over the void. This led to many unique builds where players would make cutaways of their builds, allowing players to see them from the side.

Stream 13 - Australia

On the 11th April 2021, a stream was held for Australia. This featured less underground building space, so the height was increased compared to previous regions. It was planned to stay open for one week, but ended up closing on the 2nd May 2021 at 5pm.

Stream 14 - Underground Australia

On the 18th of April, RT streamed a region featuring underground Australia as the build site. This was positioned in the same space as the previous above-ground Australia build, with the underground area completely wiped ahead of time. The one additional rule in the area was to build upside down. This region closed at 5pm, 2nd May 2021.

Due to the lack of natural light, this spawned a lot of creations with lights, similar to The Void Greenland domes.

After this time, RT stated that he planned to have a break from Minecraft streams, although future public build areas would continue to open over the break.

Stream 15 - New Heaven

First opened on 15th June 2021, This build was inspired by RT's playthrough of Bioshock Infinite. It started off as a simple idea of a build in New Earth where people could build above the clouds, but later expanded into a build in its own world due to world height restrictions, with the later goal to copy-paste into New Earth once there was additional world height available with the 1.17 update.

This world is now accessible via the New Heaven portal in the Misc section of the New Earth hub.

A few visual tweaks were applied, such as changing the light and shadow level of the world, meaning higher clouds did not cast dark shadows below. In New Earth when visiting this location you are granted night vision for a similar effect. For the duration of the stream, the sky colour was also changed to that of a deeper blue - to mimic the feel of Bioshock Infinite.

Public Build 10 - Middle East

This region opened on the 4th July 2021, including countries such as Saudi Aravia, Yeman, Oman, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Jordan and more. This closed on the 16th October 2021.

Public Build 11 - Mainland China

On the 16th October 2021, a rather large, rectangular build site was opened that was designated as the servers China area, but also included other countries such as Mongolia, Nepal, and Kyrgyzstan. This build site later closed at midnight on 24th December 2021.

Stream 16 - Antarctica

On November 30th 2021 there was a stream for a small section of Antarctica. The unique catch on the region was this was based on the original Chunk Stream Build design, so each player could have a plot to themselves. This limit was later upped to two per player during the stream.

There were a total of 392 plots. Not all of these were claimed or built in.

This was the first stream in a while and acted as a refresher for a later stream.

Stream 18 - India

On 21st December 2021, an India build area opened for the stream. While originally planned to close after the stream, it was decided to close at midnight on 24th December 2021. Public Build 12 - Antarctica

On 8th February 2022, a new area of Antarctica was opened up for players to build in. Unlike the previous Antarctica build, this area was open and not exclusive to chunks. While no official highlights video exists of this region, RT did tour most of it during the New Earth's 2 year anniversary stream. This area holds the record for the longest time being open to build on, lasting until 19th September 2022, making it over 200 days, or half a year, of being open to build on.

Several factors contribute to this build sites longevity, but the main reason is due to RT's desire to play other games throughout the course of 2022. RT prides himself in variety with his content, meaning New Earth was barely mentioned and resulted in an alltime low amount of players. This lack of interest meant that the mods were not willing to open more build sites until more players became active again.

During this period the Build server was upgraded to both 1.18 and 1.19 allowing their respective new blocks, aswell as the new addition of furniture models, allowing for more realistic depictions of chairs, tables, and sofas.

Public Build 13 - Melanesia

On 4th September 2022, a new area of Melanesia was opened. This region includes countries such as West Papua, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanatu, New Caledonia and Fiji to name a few. The build area wraps around the existing Australia area and extends to the world border. The build site was closed on 18th December 2022, at 24:00 GMT

This build site was one of the first to be mostly contained of water, as most of the islands above the water were too small to be accessible for large scale projects. As a result, many builders took this as an opportunity to build unique structures, as you don't really need a "theme" to build over the water. Naturally, there are a lot of ships and ocean creatures in this area, including a full on kaiju battle with giant robots.

Stream 19 - Touring New Earth

On 6th December, 2022, RT hosted a stream focused on touring all of New Earth, his first New Earth stream in nearly a year. The stream was a "retrospective" of sorts, going back through the majority of past builds, including builds sites RT had not previously not seen before, specifically the Central and East Asia builds, Mainland China build, and the Antarctica build. During this stream, the Melanesia build site was open during the stream and accessible to viewers, and remained open afterwards. The highlights for this stream were released two days later on 8th December, 2022.

Stream 20 - Middle America/Central America

On 15th December 2022, RT hosted a stream for the new Middle America build site, which contained the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. The Caribbean countries were excluded and saved for a later public build. The build site closed on 15th January 2023 at 24:00 GMT. It was the first build site in the America's in over a year.

This build site saw the creation of the "arrows", which started when a single player built a red arrow over a lectern to get RT's attention. These arrows eventually became spammed and were banned from future build sites.

Stream 21 - North Pole

On 21st December 2022, RT hosted a stream for the new build site, which was called the "North Pole" but geographically takes place on Svalbard Islands. The build site closed down on 15th January 2023 at 24:00 GMT, the same time as the Middle America build site. Currently, no highlights video for this stream exist.

This build site is currently the 2nd smallest amount of space in a build site in terms of surface area, with only an 85x85 area available within the build plot. However, the build height for this area rose up to 1983 blocks, making it hold the record for the largest build area in terms of height. The build site is centered around a 3x3 red & white concrete pole that rises up to the maximum height in the build zone, and players were encouraged to have their builds be connected to the pole by whatever means they found suitable. The majority of the builds here are christmas/holiday themed, as the build site was open for the majority of the holiday season.

Public Build 14 - Caribbean

On 15th January 2023, a new area for the Caribbean was opened. The region included Cuba, Hati, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as other smaller Caribbean islands. The build site closed on 16th April at 24:00 BST. While there was no dedicated highlights video for this region, RT did tour it during the East Brazil stream.

The Caribbeans is home to many unique cultures and media, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, One Piece, and Sea of Thieves, so naturally, a lot of builds here consist of pirate ships, tropical islands, and all kinds of sea monsters. Similar to the Melanesia build, the vast amount of water gave builders more freedom to build something unique, making this build area one of the most interesting in terms of scale and variety.

Stream 22 - Pixel Art Canvas/Worlds End

On 12th March 2023, RT hosted a stream for the new build site, officially called "Worlds End", but is better described as a pixel art canvas. The build area consists of a 1x1 area, making it the smallest build site in terms of surface area, that spans the entire length of the world and rests at the worlds northern border. The build site is currently still open to edit, and a highlights video was released a couple weeks after the stream on 27th March 2023.

A pixel art stream/build had been teased by RT and the mods ever since the servers conception. This is due to a server rule that banned pixel art, as it would often hide other builds that were behind it and overall was not a very creative use of the space given to players in the build sites. As a result, this build site spanned the entire length of the world, giving players as much room as they possibly could to create the pixel art that they previously could not build, in the nearly 3 years the server has been active.

Stream 23 - East Brazil

On 8th April 2023, RT hosted a stream for the build site "East Brazil", which contained, well, the eastern part of Brazil. It was the first build site opened in South America and is currently still open to edit. A highlights video was released a few days later on the 12th of April. At the start of the stream, RT toured some of the Caribbean build area, to give people more time to build.

During the stream, RT suggested that the Amazon Rainforest, a massive and ecologically important rainforest in Brazil, would be zoned off from players in future build sites and could not be edited, due to it's importance in the real world, and the rest of the New Earth server already being packed with builds. Zoning off the Amazon would give players a nice breather from the sheer amount of player activity present in the other regions.
